Stonewall Sports is an LGBTQ & Ally community-based, non-profit sports organization founded in 2010 that strives to raise funds for local non-profit organizations. Our league values each player for who they are and what they bring to the leagues community. Detroit was added to the Stonewall Sports family in 2019 through the vision of Mitchell Jeffery and David Russell. It was their vision to utilize recreational sports as a way to increase communal bonding within the Detroit LGBTQ+ community.

This is an all gender, all experience level league. The League will utilize the rules and regulations of USA Volleyball.

Dates/Time: All games are played on Thursdays starting at 8 pm and ending around 11pm (depending on number of teams that register).

Facility: This season we will be playing at the Detroit City Fieldhouse, 3401 East Lafayette Street, Detroit MI, 48207

Registration Cost: $60 per player, this cost does include your registered player shirt. In an effort to make Stonewall Sports available to all, we do have a fee waiver program you can learn more about here. Refunds are not offered for any Stonewall Sports Detroit activities.

Registration Information: Registration for this league will run from December 19, 2022 through January 8, 2023 or until sold out.

  • A team is formed when 8 players register and play. A team can have up to 10 players. Any team that does not have the required 8 registered players when registration closes will revert to free agents and will be assigned to the formed teams. We will do our best to keep groups together. If we have an odd number of teams, we will have to make major changes to teams to accommodate everyone.
  • Captains: If you plan on being the captain of a team, you will need to register first and then have players register under your team name. You will also be required to attend the general information session on TBD.
  • Players:
    • I plan to create a team: If you plan to create a team you will need to register as the team captain (see above). Then you can tell your friends to register as a team player and join your team. To become one of the new teams, you must register 8 players.
    • I plan to join a team: If you already know with which team you are going to play on, you will need to register as a team player. Keep in mind that you can't randomly join any team; captains may ask that a player be removed from their team prior to the close of registration. Captains can email the volleyball leadership team to move a player from their team, but only after the captain has communicated with the player first and explained why.
    • I want to play but don't have a team: That's fantastic! This league is about making new friends and building community. Register as a free agent and we will place you on a team.
    • I have a few friends but not a team: If you have a few friends but not a full team you can register as a Small Group. The we will do our best to make sure that you are all on the same team with one another. If for some reason the group had to be broken up we would notify the players.
