Stonewall Sports is an LGBTQ & Ally community-based, non-profit sports organization founded in 2010 that strives to raise funds for local non-profit organizations. Our league values each player for who they are and what they bring to the league's community. Detroit was added to the Stonewall Sports family in 2019 through the vision of Mitchell Jeffery and David Russell. It was their vision to utilize recreational sports as a way to increase communal bonding within the Detroit LGBTQ+ community. 

This is an all gender, all experience level league. The League will utilize the rules and regulations of USA Volleyball. 

Dates/Time: All games are played on Thursdays starting at 8 pm and ending around 11pm (depending on number of teams that register). 

• Your team will have games scheduled at 8, 9, and 10pm, and due to the volume of teams the splits of game times will not be perfect. The Division Lead will make all attempts to spread out game times as much as possible.

Registration Cost: $65 per player, this cost includes your registered player shirt. In an effort to make Stonewall Sports available to all, we do have a fee waiver program you can learn more about here. Refunds are not offered for any Stonewall Sports Detroit activities.

Registration Information: Registration for this league will run from December 8th, 2023 through December 22, 2023 or until sold out. We anticipate this league selling out EXTREMELY quickly, don't delay signing up! 

• A team is formed when 8 players register and play. A team can have up to 10 players. Any team that does not have the required 8 registered players when registration closes will revert to free agents and will be assigned to the formed teams. We will do our best to keep groups together. If we have an odd number of teams, we will have to make changes to teams to accommodate everyone. 
  • PLEASE NOTE: if you sign up for the league with LESS than 10 players, your team will likely have free agents or a small group added due to volume of registrants. Anticipate being assigned a full, 10 player team for this season.
• Captains: If you plan on being the captain of a team, you will need to register first and then have players register under your team name. You will also be required to attend the Captains Meeting on January 4th, 2024 at Detroit City Fieldhouse (to be held during the pre-season kick-off party). 
• Players:
  • I plan to create a team: If you plan to create a team you will need to register as the team captain (see above). Then you can tell your friends to register as a team player and join your team. To become one of the new teams, you must register 8 players. 
  • I plan to join a team: If you already know with which team you are going to play on, you will need to register as a team player. Keep in mind that you can't randomly join any team; captains may ask that a player be removed from their team prior to the close of registration. Captains can email the volleyball leadership team to move a player from their team, but only after the captain has communicated with the player first and explained why. 
  • I want to play but don't have a team: That's fantastic! This league is about making new friends and building community. Register as a free agent and we will place you on a team. 
  • I have a few friends but not a team: If you have a few friends but not a full team you can register as a Small Group. The we will do our best to make sure that you are all on the same team with one another. If for some reason the group had to be broken up we would notify the players.

• Divisions: The league is split into two divisions. When registering, a Division-related question will be available for Team Captains and Free Agents ranging from Beginner/Recreational to Intermediate/Competitive. The Stonewall Sports Detroit team will do its best to place teams and free agents in appropriate divisions based on responses, but in some cases teams may need to be moved to a different division before the start. If a selected division needs to be revisited after a few games have been played, we reserve the right to do so.

• January 18 - Game 2
• January 25 - Game 3
• February 1 - Game 4
• February 8 - Game 5
• February 15 - Game 6
• February 22 - Game 7
• February 29 - Playoffs (Tournament)
• March 7 - "Weather" Date in case of inclement weather. If it's not needed for a rescheduled game, this will be the date of our Post Season Gathering!

All events above will be on Thursdays unless otherwise stated. All games above will be at Detroit City Fieldhouse unless otherwise stated. Additional events may be added throughout the season.
